Gavin Friday: From Virgin Prunes Punk Rebel to Avant-Garde Icon; Provoking thought with Art & Music

Gavin Friday talks to Steve Blame about Ecce Homo, the losses that shaped its songs, and the lifelong search for the freedom to be himself.

From growing up in Catholic Ireland to finding confidence through David Bowie and punk, Gavin reflects on the experiences behind his music. He speaks openly about therapy, his difficult relationship with his father, their eventual reconciliation, and caring for his mother as she lived with Alzheimer’s.

He also recalls growing up alongside Bono and Guggi on Cedarwood Road, the friendships behind Lipton Village, and forming the Virgin Prunes. Returning to Ecce Homo, he explains how reconnecting with Dave Ball led to a new musical partnership—and an album shaped by grief, friendship, anger and compassion.
