About Steve Blame

Steve Blame is a television presenter, interviewer, screenwriter, author and format creator, best known as one of the defining faces of MTV News Europe from 1987 to 1994.

During a period of enormous political and cultural change, Steve interviewed hundreds of artists and public figures, including Madonna, Paul McCartney, Nirvana, Elton John, Tina Turner, Frank Zappa, Boy George, Mikhail Gorbachev and the Dalai Lama. His incisive but conversational approach helped make MTV News an essential cultural reference point for a generation of young people across Europe.

After MTV, Steve became Programme Director of VIVA Zwei in Cologne and later helped establish the youth channel Tango TV in Luxembourg. He went on to work in television production and format development, co-creating the internationally produced game show Where Is the Money?, which earned a Rose d’Or nomination.

Steve is the author of two books, Getting Lost Is Part of the Journey and Emotional Vaseline. He also co-wrote the pilot episode of the television series Cape Town, subsequently shown on Netflix and Amazon.

Today, Steve lives in Athens. Greece has become both his home and an important part of his creative life, and he is committed to supporting and promoting contemporary Greek music and culture alongside the international artists who have shaped popular culture.

Steve’s Podcast: Pop the History Makers

Pop: The History Makers presents candid, in-depth conversations with the singers, musicians, songwriters, producers, photographers and creative figures who have shaped music and popular culture.

Recorded over Zoom from Steve’s home in Athens, the interviews explore entire careers rather than concentrating only on a guest’s latest release. They uncover the personal experiences, creative decisions and cultural moments behind the music that became part of our lives.

Drawing on decades of interviewing experience, Steve brings warmth, curiosity and honesty to every conversation. His relaxed but fearless style encourages guests to move beyond familiar anecdotes and reveal the stories, struggles and turning points that other interviews often miss.

The podcast also reflects Steve’s life in Greece and his continuing commitment to introducing audiences to contemporary Greek artists and the culture developing around them.

Whether you remember Steve from MTV or are discovering his work for the first time, Pop: The History Makers offers conversations with substance, humour and history, told by the people who were there.
